It’s important that you get to know some of your fellow bakers so we’ve asked a few of our members a few questions to give you an insight to what its like at Village Bakers.
John Maines hosted some of our Baking Live events, showing us how to make the perfect peanut butter brownie. A member of the Bakers for over four years, he has wowed us with his sweet and savoury contributions and won the Great Village Bake Off in 2018. It was great to interview John and learn more about him.
James Maynard is one of our founding members. It was lovely to interview him and learn more about his eight years and counting as a Village Baker, his baking specialisms, and finding love through the group.
“Everyone was incredibly chilled out and friendly, the Molly House was comfortable and quiet and made a refreshing change to the louder Village venues I’d visited, and a lunch spread provided by passionate bakers… need I say more?”
“My top tip for new bakers is to make sure you don’t panic and have fun!” Lea. “I think my top tip would be to allows follow Mary Berry’s recipes, she knows best” Rebecca
“My signature bake is one of my Mum’s recipe’s called Polish Cake, basically crushed digestive biscuits, its fantastic”
Who taught you to bake? “As my dad says; “She who must be obeyed”, my mother taught me to bake. One of the first things she taught me to make was pastry for jam and lemon curd tarts and scones – so many scones!”
