Meet The Bakers

It’s important that you get to know some of your fellow bakers so we’ve asked a few of our members a few questions to give you an insight to what its like at Village Bakers.

In the days when we could meet at the Molly House, Sakander (above right), and his partner James “Roger”, regularly wowed us with intricate and delicious bakes. Since the pandemic struck, Sakander, a doctor, has been working on the frontline. It was great to learn more about him and James, and we hope to be able to sample their bakes again soon.

John Maines hosted some of our Baking Live events, showing us how to make the perfect peanut butter brownie. A member of the Bakers for over four years, he has wowed us with his sweet and savoury contributions and won the Great Village Bake Off in 2018. It was great to interview John and learn more about him.

Who taught you to bake? “As my dad says; “She who must be obeyed”, my mother taught me to bake. One of the first things she taught me to make was pastry for jam and lemon curd tarts and scones – so many scones!”
