Jess joined The Village Bakers in 2014 and not only increased her circle of friends but her range of bakes thanks to also baking for her partner Heidi.
Who taught you to bake?
As my dad says; “She who must be obeyed”, my mother taught me to bake. One of the first things she taught me to make was pastry for jam and lemon curd tarts and scones – so many scones!
What’s your signature bake?
Christmas cake! Every October I make a huge batch of mini Christmas cakes – the kitchen always smells amazing. This year I’m attempting a gluten and dairy free version for my mother-in-law which is slightly daunting.
Savoury or sweet?
Sweeeeeeet.
What one thing would you love to be able to bake?
I’d love to have the time to make filo pastry. Even Mary Berry buys it in!
Top tip for any new bakers?
Recipes are great, but always remember that you don’t have to stick to them.
