Got a question?

You’ve come to the right place! We’ve gathered together the questions we get asked the most about Village Bakers, from how our socials work to what it means to be a member. Think of this page as a little recipe book of answers — simple, handy, and straight from the source. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, just get in touch — we’re always happy to help.

What is the Village Bakers LGBTQ+ Social Group ?

Village Bakers is a fun and friendly LGBTQ+ baking social group in Greater Manchester, built around a love of baking and bringing people together. We host regular Sunday Socials where members bake at home, bring their bakers along, share them, and enjoy each other’s creations in a relaxed, inclusive and welcoming space. It’s about community, friendship, and celebrating who we are — whether you’re a star baker, a beginner, or just here to taste and chat.

How do I become a Village Bakers Member?

To become a Village Bakers member, you need to have attended three Sunday Socials first. Once you’ve done that, you can sign up via our membership form on the website. Membership is free and comes with perks — members get 10% off everything at The Molly House, can help shape the group, and gain access to other member-only free events. Don’t worry — everyone is welcome at socials, whether you’re a member or not.

Is there a membership fee for Village Bakers?

Nope! There’s no membership fee to join Village Bakers, and our Sunday Socials are always free to attend. We do have an optional donation bucket at socials for anyone who’d like to chip in and support the group, but there’s no pressure. Some of our other organised events may have a small fee, just to help cover costs.

What types of things should I bake for Village Bakers?

Anything you like! All food is welcome at our meetings — cakes, cookies, pastries, bread, sweet or savoury. Food is presented as a buffet, so please pre-portion larger bakes where possible. Cakes can be cut on the day at The Molly House, so feel free to decorate as much as you like. As a rule, savoury bakes tend to disappear quicker than sweet ones, so don’t be surprised if your cheese scones vanish fast!

Do you need to bake to attend the Village Bakers?

Not at all! While many of our members love to bake, it’s just as much about enjoying good company, making friends, and being part of the community. Whether you bring a cake, buy one on the way, or simply come along for a chat, you’ll always be welcome.

Where and when do the Village Bakers meet?

We usually get together every second Sunday of the month for our Sunday Socials, held upstairs at The Molly House in Manchester’s Gay Village. Dates are shared in advance on our website and social media, so you’ll always know when the next bake-and-share is coming up.

Does The Molly House have car parking?

The Molly House doesn’t have its own car park, but there are plenty of public car parks nearby in Manchester city centre. You’ll also find good transport links if you prefer to travel by tram, train, or bus.

Is there accessible access to the venue?

The Molly House is not fully accessible — there are steps at the entrance and two flights of stairs to reach the upstairs bar and toilets. If accessibility is a concern, please check with us before attending.

I have an allergy. Can I attend Village Bakers?

You’re very welcome, but please be aware that Village Bakers cannot take responsibility for allergen control. All bakes are homemade, so they may contain any allergens. Food served at our monthly socials is prepared under domestic hygiene conditions but may still contain traces of allergens, even when not used as ingredients. Bakes frequently contain nuts, flour, eggs, and other allergens and sometimes less common allergens. If you have an allergy, please bear this in mind if attending.

Is the Molly House Dog Friendly ?

Yes! Well-behaved dogs are welcome at The Molly House, but please make sure they are kept under control and supervised at all times.

Do you sell cakes? or do event catering?

No, Village Bakers doesn’t sell cakes or provide catering. Our focus is on baking together, sharing, and enjoying each other’s creations at our socials and events. It’s all about community, not commerce!

How can I contact you?

You can get in touch with Village Bakers by email, social media, or through the contact form on our website. We’re happy to answer questions, provide info about socials, or just have a chat — don’t be shy!

Is the Village Bakers social suitable for children to attend?

The group is aimed at adults and LGBTQ+ community members, but children are welcome to attend if accompanied by an adult.

Do I need to be LGBTQ+ to attend?

Nope! Village Bakers is open to everyone. While the group is focused on supporting LGBTQ+ community members, anyone who wants to join in, bake, share, and enjoy the socials is very welcome.

Do I need to drink at Village Bakers?

No, whilst people do enjoy a glass of wine or a beer, there is also a selection of soft drinks along with teas and coffee which can all be ordered at the bar.
